January Tag - Tim’s 2016 Tag Challenge

I was bowled over by Tim’s first tag of the year.  It was not at all what I was expecting.  I’d anticipated the traditional New Year kind of thing…. resolutions, out with the old and in with the new etc.. but this was hitting the ground running and I adored it. Not least because it was revisiting two of my favourite techniques. 

I was so excited and got totally engrossed making my tag that I forgot to take photographs along the way to show my journey (oops! ). Here is the end result….my take on Tim’s tag:

My wish list is already swollen with the goodies  I've spied as Tim has been sneak peaking CHA on his blog recently, but I definitely want to make room for the typewriter set texture fades embossing folder that Tim used this month. I used a random dot embossing folder to continue the background of heart stamp (Stampers Anonymous Urban Chic) used for the centre of my tag.  Unfortunately the random dots became a little lost in the Black Soot Distress Paint but I am still happy with the over all effect.

I stamped my image twice and then cut out the central heart and the banner which I popped up on dimensionals to add a little height to the tag.  With the New Year theme I added the 2016 using Ranger Label Letters touched over the top with a little Glossy Accents.

The tiny watch parts were  from my stash.  I’ve been using these to my hearts content on a steampunk interactive journal that I’ve been working on for some time now. A good set of eyes and a pair of fine-nosed tweezers come in very handy when glueing these together with trusty ol’Glossy Accents.

The silver ‘cord’ was some twine left over from a couple of tags that came on Christmas presents I received. At the time I thought “that’ll come in handy” and squirrelled it away.  Little did I know just how quickly I’d be using it.

My ribbon (white seam binding dyed with Brushed Pewter Distress Stain and Black Soot Distress Ink) was tied with a little more of the silver cord plus a strand of gold to pick up the hint of gold in the watch parts. 

I love how the chalk sticks to the embossing ink, picking up the stamped image
and leaves a fine film over the rest of the stark black card.

Finally I backed my tag with black card stock, made my usual charm from Tim’s month logo which I secured in place with a jump ring around my ribbon and then added a picture of Tim’s tag on the back to show my inspiration…. et Voila!

My New Year's resolution (only the one) is acts of random kindness  and as these should come from the heart, the theme for my January tag felt comfortable. The Ranger Philosophy Band is my 'note to self' for this year. I think I'll leave this tag out in my craft room all year as my aid memoir.

What a great start to the year … I’m champing at the bit for February now! Thanks Tim, your motivation and inspiration is boundless.
