Numbers Count - Journal Page

Hi everyone,

here is another journal page that I created for France
Papillon’s ALAD/ASAW Blog Challenge.  The theme for week 29 was numbers and/or geometry. I did originally have grand ideas for something geometry themed  but when it didn’t work out this was the page that emerged.

I started off working on a piece of white card from my stash (Hobbycraft 300gsm) which I heat embossed using the number stamp from the Stampers Anonymous stamp set (Urban Chic) and Stampendous embossing powder (white).

Next I added colour with Ranger Distress Inks (ripe persimmon & squeezed lemonade) and Distress Oxide Inks (spiced marmalade & fossilized amber ). Gently blending until I was happy with the background.  Using a sheet  of kitchen roll the embossed numbers were dry ‘buffed’ to wipe off any ink left from the colouring and blending process.

To create more interest in the background, I created ghosting using a TCW stencil (6x6 mini numerals) and a damp baby wipe. Some of the numbers I left ghosted but others, mainly the larger numerals, I heart embossed using StampingUp embossing powder (fine detail clear) and a Versa Marker watermark pen.

A few strips of torn geometric design washi tape from my stash was adhered with Ranger Multi Medium (matt) alongside the embossed numbers in the bottom LHS and top RHS corners.

Before deciding to use the Hobbycraft card for this project, I practised on a scrape of the card with my Distress Inks   to see how well they would blend. I really like the result and not wanting to let anything go to waste, I used the practise scrap for stamping my main focal image on. Various numbers from an Indigo Blue stamp set (design numerals) were stamped and then heat embossed with Stampendous embossing powder (midnight black).  These were then cut out and the edges inked with DI (hickory smoke, ripe perisomme).

Some I glued directly onto the background and others I dimensionalised on foam pads.

My final touch was to add a few black splatters using acrylic paint mixed with a little water.  As ever I backed the page with black card to frame the journal page and added two tiny tags. My usual date tag and the other to indicate the page was a ALAD/ASAW Challenge piece.

There’s no sentiment on the page. I was  so indecisive about using either ‘number’s count’ or ‘the numbers are stacked’ that in the end I decided to leave the page unlabelled.

Thanks for reading and happy crafting,

Carol. xx
